So there's been a lot of nothing on my personal site for quite a few months but as indicated in my last post these past few months have been busy. The web comic website for Mae Tala is now up here. Go check it out and come back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for new pages. As a side effect of working on my own art style I've developed a new appreciation of digital media and am now producing artwork in a digital-only workflow for the webcomic. A test piece (and birthday present :D) can be seen on my Instagram and my Deviantart. I'll be adding it to my Miscellaneous section in the next couple of days. On the subject of my galleries I'm going to rename the current 'Mae Tala' gallery to 'Mae Tala concepts' and host a new gallery of the art of each page of the Mae Tala web comic which will have links to both the Deviantart gallery entries and the main Mae Tala website. Thanks for sticking around and waiting for me to nail a style and a technique down. Now that I've done it I feel that there's a lot more I can do with artistic efforts starting primarily with the web comic but moving far beyond that to one off art pieces and even some more elaborate work down the line. It's going to be a busy couple of months... again! Martin
Some people have asked for an archive of the Daily Doodles, which seems like a smart thing to do so people can peruse to their favourite. I'm going to split them into monthly galleries, each month archived in the Portfolio so you can always get to your favourite one. The current month's gallery will be on the front page, accruing images with each working day that passes. In other news my Instagram gallery, mainly filled with the sketches of the Daily Doodles, has had a few more hits than I was expecting, my thanks to an old school friend in schooling me on the import of hashtags to get people to notice what gets put up on Instagram. Incidentally my friend is also pursuing art, you can see his work here. Finally, I've finished working... not forever but hopefully for companies and other people. I'm now pursuing Mae Tala (which you can see some concept work of in the Portfolio) full-time. In the next 10 weeks I'm going to create the first chapter of the graphic novel and all the advertising imagery we need plus co-design the website for launch at the beginning of April. It's going to be a busy couple of months! Martin
After some feedback from a friend I decided that it'd be a good idea to add some imagery to the front page. To this end there's now a 'daily doodle' gallery at the top of the page that I'll update every work day (no weekends!). Under that there's a direct feed to my Instagram account, where I'll be dropping daily (perhaps more frequent) updates on the project work I'm doing, mostly artwork I'd imagine. That means you'll be able to turn up to the website, see the daily works and if nothing else is around to look at (or interests you) you can make your way on to the rest of the day with minimum fuss. Alternatively you could click on one of the social media buttons at the top of the page and follow, subscribe to the one you mostly use. Instagram updates are linked to the Facebook page and the Twitter account so you only need to follow one to get all the images I post. Hope you're all off to a great January and are looking forward to a challenging, fun, adventurous New Year! Martin
